Department of Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy consists of six laboratories and Tuorla Observatory, each of which specializes in its own field of research.
The department has 10 professors, 7 university lecturers, 2 university teachers, and ca. 30 researchers. There are 8 persons in the techical staff. The office staff of four people from the Faculty Administration Services work at the department. There are also a number of post-graduate students, research assistants and other persons in various research projects. In total more than 100 people are currently working at the department.
The number of graduate students is about 360 and post-graduate students 74. Many students from other departments participate in the lecture courses given at the department. Every year 55 new students start their studies in physics and astronomy.
