The particle theory and cosmology group studies field theory, particle physics and their applications to topics in cosmology. In particular, the evolution and structure of the universe as synthesis of particle physics and cosmology, phenomenological aspects of standard model and its extensions as well as modified theories of gravitation are studied. The group can be divided into two:
- The field theory group studies baryogenesis, phase transitions of the early Universe and neutrino physics
- The cosmology group studies gravitation with emphasis on dark matter and energy as well as modified theories of gravitation
